Te Whare Tapa Whā

Te Whare Tapa Whā is a model created by Mason Drurie of the four cornerstones (sides) of Māori wellbeing.

  • Taha Wairua – Spiritual Wellbeing

  • Taha Hinengaro – Mental & Emotional Wellbeing

  • Taha Tinana – Physical Wellbeing

  • Taha Whānau – Family & Social Wellbeing

Te Whare Tapa Whā illustrates the importance of building and maintaining the four key aspects of our wellbeing. When these four sides are strong, life is generally going well. But when even just one corner falls, the strength of the whole whare is comprised, and our overall wellbeing is impacted.

For example, a disconnect or conflict with whānau can weaken our Family & Social Wellbeing in the same way a motorbike accident and stint in hospital can weaken our Physical Wellbeing.

I work with individuals and groups to identify and focus on areas they wish to strengthen.
